The weekly change compares the same 5,187 filling stations with an unleaded price on both days, so a station dropping out of the figures does not move it.

5,637 of the 6,188 stations seen during the week changed at least one price.

The cheapest unleaded in England on Sunday 20 September 2026 was 157.9p at Asda Sheffield Supercentre, Sheffield (S13 9LR); the most expensive was 230.0p at Thorn House Filling Station, Penrith (CA10 1BL), a gap of 72.1p, or £36.05 on a 50-litre tank.

The cheapest diesel was 180.9p at Costco Wholesale Oldham, Oldham (OL9 8AU), members only.

Across the UK, unleaded was up 2.3p over the same week, at 172.3p, which puts England 0.3p above the national average.

Among the towns of England, unleaded fell most in Ashby-de-la-zouch (down 2.5p to 170.9p), Ossett (down 1.7p to 172.6p), Baldock (down 1.3p to 171.6p) and rose most in Shipley (up 10.3p to 180.2p), Woodbridge (up 5.6p to 173.4p), Batley (up 5.5p to 172.4p).

"Drivers in England paid 2.3p more for a litre of unleaded this week. On a 50-litre tank, that is £1.15 more than a week earlier. The gap between the cheapest and the dearest forecourt in England is 72.1p, so where you fill up still matters more than when." said Jacky A., editor of fuelpricetoday.co.uk.

How the figures are computed

Each average is the mean of the prices changed in the last 7 days at the filling stations of England, motorway services left out and prices more than 25p from the day's median discarded. The cheapest and most expensive stations are judged against the stations within 10 km, so that a typing error cannot top the list. The week runs from Monday to Sunday. Details on how this site works.
