The Fuel Finder rules require every change to be reported within 30 minutes, so a quiet day mostly means steadier prices, although some stations do report late: a price that sits still for weeks and then jumps is usually one. How these figures are made

Every filling station in the UK must publish its prices through the government's Fuel Finder scheme. We record every station's prices each day, and have done so since 7 Sep. Each daily figure is the average of the prices on display that day. Prices more than 25p away from the day's median are left out as reporting errors, and motorway service stations are left out of the averages because they do not charge local prices.
