Fuel Price Today

The Fuel Finder scheme

Fuel Finder is the UK's open data scheme for pump prices. Every filling station must report each price change within 30 minutes, and anyone may reuse the prices: apps, sat navs and sites like this one. We read the whole feed every three hours. It lists 8,146 stations today, last read 25 Oct 2026.

Live since
2 February 2026, for every filling station that sells fuel to the public.
Price changes
Must reach Fuel Finder within 30 minutes of the change on the forecourt.
Forecourt details
Opening hours, amenities and contact details must be updated within three days of a change.
Run by
VE3 Global Limited, which operates the service for the government. The feed is published by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
Enforced by
The Competition and Markets Authority, which can investigate and impose financial penalties. It began prioritising enforcement on 1 May 2026.

Why it exists

In its road fuel market study, whose final report came out on 3 July 2023, the Competition and Markets Authority found that competition at the pump was not working as well as it should. One reason was that drivers could not easily compare up-to-date prices between nearby forecourts. It recommended an open data scheme so that station-by-station prices would reach apps and sat navs in near real time, and retailers would have to compete harder for customers. Fuel Finder is that scheme.

How often each brand changes its prices

Unleaded, the 28 days to 25 Oct. Days changed: average number of days on which a station's price changed. Never changed: share of stations whose price did not move once. Brands with 25 stations or more, counting stations present for the whole period.

The average UK station changed its unleaded price on 2.5 of the last 28 days. Sainsburys stations changed theirs on 5.2 days, independent stations on 1.3. 1,177 stations, 15% of the total, did not change it once.

What an unchanged price means

A price that does not move is not proof that a station is breaking the rules: a retailer may simply hold its price, and the feed records changes, not confirmations. But over the same 28 days the UK average for unleaded ranged from 172.9p to 174.5p, so a price that has not moved in four weeks is worth checking before you drive there. That is why every price on this site shows when it last changed.

Which day prices change

Tuesday5,312

Thursday4,200

Saturday2,212
Sunday1,362

Tuesday is the busiest day, with 5,312 price changes on average, and Sunday the quietest, with 1,362. Saturday and Sunday are the two quietest days: most prices change on working days. See the day-by-day count on the fuel price trends page.

Stations joining and leaving

Stations that reported their first price, and stations silent for 7 days or more and not back, by the month it happened.

September counts from 7 Sep 2026, the day our record starts. A station that stops reporting has not necessarily closed: 19 have come back after a silence of a week or more. The names are on the new stations and stations no longer reporting pages.

What Fuel Finder does not publish

The feed holds the current price only. When a station changes its price, the old one is gone. This site keeps a daily record of every station since 7 Sep 2026, which is how each town and station page can show how its prices have moved. For the longer view, the UK petrol price history page sets that record against the government's weekly series, which goes back to 2003.

Fuel Finder also says nothing about loyalty discounts, app-only prices or whether a pump is working. More on what the data does and does not cover on how this site works.
