Which Fuel Brands Change Their Prices, and Which Go Quiet
By Jacky A. · Published 27 Oct 2026 · Figures updated 7 Nov 2026
In brief
Over the four weeks to 7 Nov 2026, Sainsburys, Morrisons and Asda changed their prices most often, on 5.3, 4.6 and 3.9 days out of 28 per station. The average UK station changed its price on 3.3 days, and 8% of stations did not change it at all.
Every UK filling station must now report a price change within 30 minutes, and the government publishes the result as open data. We keep a copy every day, so for each station we can count the days on which its price was different from the day before. This page compares brands on that count, over the last 28 days, for every brand with at least 25 stations. Over the same period the UK average price of unleaded was down 5.2p, so no station faced a market standing still.

Days changed: average number of days, out of 28, on which a station's unleaded or diesel price differed from the day before. Never changed: share of the brand's stations with no change at all over the period.
Who changes most, and who least
At the top, Sainsburys stations changed price on 5.3 days out of 28, about 1.3 times a week. At the bottom, Welcome Break, Pace and Murco managed 1.3, 1.4 and 1.7. Independent stations, with no brand in the feed, changed on 1.6 days and 28% of them did not change at all.
Frequent changes do not mean high prices. A brand that reprices often is usually one that follows its local competitors closely and passes on wholesale movements quickly, in both directions. A brand that rarely moves is either setting prices for long periods or, at some stations, not reporting changes at all, and the feed alone cannot always tell the two apart.
Stations that went quiet
The share of stations that never changed price in 28 days is highest at Pace (34%), Welcome Break (32%) and Murco (23%). In a month when the national average moved, a price that stays put for four weeks deserves a check at the pump.
Looking at today's prices rather than the last four weeks, 612 of the 7,929 unleaded prices in the feed had not changed for more than 30 days. The brands with the largest share are Pace (33%), Welcome Break (32%) and Murco (22%), and 27% of independent stations are in the same case. This site leaves those prices out of every average and ranking, and shows them with their age everywhere else, so an old price never passes for the cheapest in town.
What to do with this
- Trust a fresh price more than an old one. Every price on this site shows when it last changed. The how this site works page explains the rules.
- Compare brands on the same day. Each brand page gives the brand's average against the UK, its cheapest station in each nation and its full list.
- Expect changes on weekdays. Most repricing happens from Monday to Friday; see what day fuel prices change.
